Do not skip your medicine or stop the medicine on your own. Follow your doctor’s instructions and take your medicines on time.

Maintain A Proper Diet- You may lose your normal appetite after your surgery but remember this phase won’t last long. Eating well can make this entire healing process fast and effective. So it’s important for you to eat well. Add more fruits and vegetables to your everyday diet. Say a big no to the oily and spicy food for at least 1-2 months. Do not eat outside without your doctor’s permission.

Be Careful With Your Movements- Serious heart damage like Mitral valve regurgitation requires doctors to perform surgery like Mitral Valve Replacement. And after such surgery, you have to be more careful about your movements. In the first two weeks, you are not allowed to stand constantly. Also, your doctor may recommend full bed rest for two weeks after the surgery. Also, don’t try to pull weights during this recovery period. After 4-5 weeks of your surgery, your doctors may advise you to practice a morning walk. But don’t take the risk of exercising without taking your doctor’s permission.

Sleep In The Right Position- Sleeplessness is a common problem people face after receiving surgery. Don’t worry this will be fixed soon. But, till then try to sleep in the right position. Take the help of pillows to arrange a comfortable position. Go to your bed earlier and keep your phones away while sleeping.

Take Care Of Your Mental Health- Mental health has a direct connection with your heart’s health. Stress, anxiety and frustration could be potential risk factors for your heart. So be more kind to yourself in this healing period. Play some mind-soothing music. Watch some comedy movies and read some good books. These will help your mind to stay calm and body relaxed.
