3 Best Foods for Kidney Stone Prevention

Suffering from stone formation in the kidneys is one of the most common concerns for most people out there. Unhealthy food habits and inadequate water consumption are considered as the prime reasons behind the formation of stones in the urinary tract.

The accumulation of dissolved minerals in the inner lining of the kidneys results in the formation of stones which can grow from small to the size of a large golf ball with a crystalline structure.

As mentioned earlier lack of adequate water intake in the body leads to the formation of stones in the kidney as the insufficient supply of water fails to dilute the uric acid which makes the urine more acidic that gradually lead to stones formation. The most common symptoms of this disorder are bleeding and burning sensation while urination, vomiting, the formation of pus in the urine in association with fever and shivering.

Medical practitioners and researchers suggested maintaining a healthy lifestyle backed up by a nutritious diet plan and most importantly regular consumption of a minimum of 8 – 10 glasses of water or healthy juices lower the risks of stone formation in the kidneys. If you are sufficiently hydrated it will help your system to dilute the chemicals responsible for stone formation.

Apart from water, the inclusion of top 3 food habits in your diet can plays significant role in kidney stone prevention. Such as:

1. Increase in citrus intake: The best sources of naturally occurring citric acid are lemon, oranges, and grapefruits. Citric acid builds a protective shield against the formation of stones in your kidney. It helps in breaking up the potential blocks of stone formation into smaller pieces which get expelled through urination.

2. Include calcium (Vitamin D): Lower your oxalate level by including more calcium into your diet. It is always advisable by the health experts to extract calcium from natural sources rather than from the supplements. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are considered as the prime sources to obtain calcium. Apart from these, dark green vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes are also the rich source of calcium. It is equally essential to increase the intake of vitamin D, as it helps in the absorption of more calcium. The lower is the calcium level in your diet, the more is the increase in oxalate level which is primarily responsible for the stone formation.

3. Watery fruits and vegetables: Though drinking sufficient water and healthy fluids are advisable to prevent stones formation, the consumption of watery fruits and vegetables are prescribed by the physicians to get rid of stones. The inclusion of watery fruits and vegetables like watermelon, raspberries, oranges, cucumber, and pineapple help in keeping the body well hydrated thus reducing the possibility of stone formation in the kidneys and urinary tract.

The build-up of stones depends on a lot of factors including hereditary and medical cases have also proved that one person may suffer from kidney stones for multiple times during his/her lifetime and men is the worst sufferer of chronic stone formation. Prevention of causes that are responsible for this complication is a bit tough process which requires some patience and determination. One must not ignore the primary symptoms of stone formation before it takes a fatal leap.

7 Important Tips of Staying Hydrated

Water is life. About 98% of our Earth is filled with water and we are 70% water ourselves. Water is God’s best creation and we all know how important it is to stay hydrated. Keeps Your Weight in Check

While attempting a diet, you must have read to drink ample of water.

There are two ways by which water keeps your weight in check. Firstly, when your body cells need water, the brain sends you a signal to get more and you start eating instead of quenching your thirst.

Secondly, if you drink water before meals, then your tummy will be filled and you will not eat as much as you would without it.

Keep your cells, body, and mind happy by drinking at least 1-1.5 liters of water everyday.

How To Live An Overall Healthy Life

There are the obvious ways in which you can stay healthy and “live a long happy life,” but I want to talk about some of my favorite tips to being healthy. I know what it takes to be a healthy person, but it’s even hard for me sometimes. I read other peoples’ blogs sometimes to give myself motivation. Sometimes your mind isn’t enough. Sometimes you need other people to give you that push that you need to keep going. I’ve said it many times before and I’ll say it again: food and fitness are not the only aspects of health. I like to help people be healthy, but it’s going to take more than my words and my tips for you to follow through with your goals. One of my favorite tips is to cook meals that you know will fill you up. Also, make sure that it is something that you will enjoy eating, and that it will satisfy your cravings. The worst feeling ever is filling up on a bunch of food and realizing that you are still “hungry,” because you have a craving for something more. Listen to your body when it tells you it needs something sweet. There are healthy things that are sweet. Eat an orange! Another tip what I have for my viewers is, to be honest with yourself. If you’re lying to yourself, how do you expect someone else to be truthful with you?! I’m talking honesty in all aspects. For example, for one, be honest with yourself if you need a cheat meal. It’s okay to have a cheat meal to get through the week. Your week is going to be just horrible if you are constantly drowning yourself in lettuce. That’s the physical aspect of being honest with yourself. The mental part about being honest is that you need to just be an honest person overall. You attract what you give. You don’t want to get caught up with what you think you want and what you really need. Also, do not put too much on your body (or mind) that it cannot handle. Only you know what is too much, what is just enough, and what isn’t enough. You have to push yourself in all aspects of life but not to the point of no survival.

Relationships are another huge aspect of living an overall healthy life. You accept the love you think you deserve. That is why it’s so important to not only have a healthy body, and a healthy mind, but also a love for yourself. You have to love yourself enough to know what you deserve. If someone isn’t making any positive contributions to your life, then in all reality, they have no point in being there. Also, if there are more negative aspects to a relationship rather than positives, it’s time to let go. Negativity in your relationships effects you more than you realize. It affects your confidence and your overall well being. Unfortunately, you are setting the standard for all of the following people to enter your life. They have to know how they need to treat you in order to stay in your life. If you allow people to walk all over you, they’re going to.

Another thing that I want to touch on is family. Some people in your life will come and go. Friends will most likely come and go. Boyfriends/girlfriends will come and go but family is blood and family is forever. You can’t get rid of them. You were put with them for a reason and they are there to get you through the times when you feel as if you have no one. Yes, you may fight with your family. In fact, I fight more with my family than I do with my friends. But, I also forgive them much faster than anyone else. I know that they know me better than anyone else. They’ve known me longer than anyone else in my life and so has your family. While sometimes you may feel as though they don’t know what you want… they know what you need and that’s more important.

Another huge part of living a healthy life is sleep. I’m sure you know that you’re supposed to get enough sleep every night, but did you know that too much sleep is horrible for you? Did you know that there is a significant correlation between too much sleep and weight gain? I don’t know the entire reason for that, but I do know that skipping breakfast is bad for your metabolism so I’m sure that that has something to do with it. For me, if I know that I have a long day ahead of me, I make sure that I get to bed very real. Ever since I got a Fitbit, I noticed how horrible my sleeping patterns are. Sometimes I’ll go to bed around 10 and wake up at 8 and I’ll still be exhausted. So, I check my Fitbit and I see that I only got 5 hours of sleep. I am obsessed with my Fitbit because it is so accurate. My dad wears one too and his says he gets good sleep, so it is different for everyone but I am so glad that I got one because now I know why I have been so tired throughout the day after thinking I got 8+ hours of sleep.

So, with all of that being said, I want everyone to be the best person they can be. Follow all aspects of health and don’t just focus on the physical features. A healthy mind can mean a healthy life, too. I think everyone needs to focus more on the different parts of health. In fact, I would argue that weight is just a number. Muscle weighs more fat. People need to stop seeing the numbers on a scale as a representation of health. I learned to be happy with my weight because I know that my body contains a lot of muscle. Once again, thank you for tuning in.

5 Signs Of A Slow Metabolism And Hacks To Fix It

Wondering why the pounds keep piling up? You could be experiencing a slow metabolism.

Metabolism is the process of how your body burns stored fuel (including fats) to be used up as energy. When your body burns more fuel, you trim down. So if you’ve been busy at the gym, eating right but you can’t seem to see results, you may want to check if you have a slow metabolism.

A thyroid problem. Hypo and hyper thyroidism can make you lose or gain weight even if you do not try to do so. People who suffer from thyroid problems can also experience and dry skin.

Unexplained weight gain and problems losing it. The most common sign of a slow metabolism. Even if you eat healthy and regularly exercise or train, you still pack the pounds. And the most annoying part is you are having trouble keeping it off. While age may play a factor in retaining the pound and having trouble trimming down, this does not happen in an instant.

You always feel tired. A slow energy burn means your body functions slow down as well, keeping you feeling tired and sluggish.

Sadness and depression. Mood changes as your bodily functions slow down. Sadness, and depression can sink in.

You feel cold all the time. Blood circulation can also slow down, together with the decreased energy burn and supply, this makes you feel colder than usual.

However, don’t lose hope. While metabolism does decline as we get older, there are ways to jumpstart it again.

  1. Visit your doctor. If you suspect thyroidism, an early diagnosis can help counteract the effects and lessen the damage. Also, a check-up will show possible lingering illnesses, either than thyroidism, which you need to correct.
  2. Diversify your workout. Routine can make you stale, the same goes for your workout. You may not be experiencing results because your body needs a better challenge. Change your workout sets and routine after every four weeks. It can be a different exercise or workout but targets the same muscle groups. If you some extra time to spare, you can cross train. This provides your body with a different kind of challenge while still giving it ample time to recover.
  3. Stay healthy but try other foods. If you eat healthy, then keep it that way. But do try some other healthy foods to help diversify your diet. Add spice, literally, to your foods. Spicy foods help perk your metabolism.
  4. Get enough sleep. Not only your reflexes and your brain slows down when it does not get enough rest, so does your digestive system. Hence, your metabolic rate decreases and instead of burning fat, your body cannot cope at it stores it. Get seven to eight hours of sleep a night regularly. If you get a chance, don’t skimp on naps as well. However, don’t over sleep. Some people who sleep 10 or more hours have a tendency to get sluggish.

What Are Dental Sealants and Why Should My Child Get Them?

You may have taken your young child to the dentist office where the dentist suggests your son or daughter get sealants. Sealants are great ways to protect your child’s teeth, in addition to daily, proper oral hygiene.

Dental sealants are usually recommended for young children who are in the early stages of learning to properly brush their teeth. They can, however, be placed on adult’s teeth. Seniors who have arthritis and other issues that keep them from properly brushing and flossing their teeth can also benefit from sealants.

Brushing their teeth can be challenging for small children. Comfortably gripping the toothbrush, learning the right toothbrush motions and resisting the urge to swallow the toothpaste can make teeth brushing very difficult. As a result, children can get frustrated and not brush as well as they should.

Sealants won’t make teeth brushing fun, though it is important for your child to enjoy brushing his or her teeth, but they can provide a safety buffer to make up for their inadequate, less-than-ideal teeth cleaning.

When children are first learning to brush their teeth, there are many areas where they may miss, such as brushing the back molars or the backside of their front teeth. When those hard to reach places aren’t cleaned, the trapped food particles can breakdown and form cavity-causing plaque.

Sealants help protect a child’s teeth by covering the teeth with a thin, plastic covering. Sealants can’t be felt and their transparent nature makes them unnoticeable. Usually, sealants are placed over the molars as those teeth get a lot of chewing action and they are hard to reach when brushing and flossing.

Sealants are most effective when they are placed over the molars shortly after they erupt, or come up from the gumline, which is typically at ages 6 and 12. The process of placing sealants is quick, easy and pain-free.

Sealants are often made from clear plastic that fits snuggly around individual teeth, making them virtually unnoticeable to the child and others.

Why Sealants?

As mentioned previously, dental sealants block out cavity-causing debris, germs and bacteria. While your child should learn daily, proper oral hygiene, sealants help protect their teeth from decay by complimenting their established teeth cleaning routine.

Cavities are one of the most widespread and preventable childhood diseases. The over-indulgence of unhealthy, sugary snacks as well as inadequate oral hygiene are the two major causes.

Sealants prevent food particles, especially sugar, from getting embedded onto the surface and crevices of teeth. With the teeth (mainly molars) being protected from cavity-causing plaque and food debris build-up, your child will have a significantly lower chance of tooth decay.

Tooth decay in children is often overlooked. It isn’t uncommon for the health of a child’s primary (or baby) teeth to be neglected. Many parents think that the baby teeth are unimportant because they will all eventually fall out. However, cavities in the baby teeth can filter down into the up-and-coming permanent adult teeth. Children who start off with cavities risk other oral health issues such as crooked or misshapen teeth and misaligned bites. The psychological block a child may develop from early cavities may make him or her apathetic towards proper, daily oral hygiene and he or she may even dislike and resist properly caring for their teeth and gums later in life.

Sealants not only help protect children’s teeth from cavities, but it also gives them added self-confidence and has a greater joy of properly caring for their oral health.

Why Should a Toothache Be Taken Seriously?

Chances are you’ve experienced a toothache. These dental conditions are common and have a variety of causes. Sometimes they are no more than tooth sensitivity. Other times they may cause debilitating pain.

If you have an aching tooth, you can either shake it off as tooth sensitivity if it isn’t too severe or you think something is terribly wrong when the pain is excruciating. Sometimes you may be tempted to stick it out as long as you can, bearing with the pain and thinking it will go away on its own. However, this isn’t always the case.

Sometimes toothaches may be the result of a chronic condition that has hasn’t been properly dealt with. Instead of clearing up on its own, it spreads, causing further damage to your teeth and gums.

As much as you may dislike the dentist, there are some circumstances whereby immediate attention by a dental professional is important. If your tooth, for instance is causing constant, unbearable pain, will likely cause you to break down and seek immediate professional dental care.

A broken, cracked or chipped tooth can create a toothache that suddenly starts. When a tooth experiences trauma, such as being broken or chipped, the enamel of the tooth becomes weakened and compromised. The tooth enamel is the hard, translucent outer layer. It protects the inside of the tooth from infection and decay and it gives the tooth the stability and hardness to function properly. When the tooth enamel becomes compromised, the nerves inside the tooth and the roots of the tooth become exposed, leading to pain and sensitivity. In many cases, a broken, cracked or chipped tooth can be repaired.

Another source of toothache pain can come from a tooth that is abscessed. Tooth abscesses are the result of an untreated oral health condition that creates an infection. A tooth abscess is usually the result of an untreated cavity whereby the germs and bacteria from the tooth decay spread down (or up) into the root of the tooth. Abscessed teeth can be saved with a root canal. In instances where the tooth abscess is too great, the tooth will need to be extracted. You’ll know whether you have an abscessed tooth or not. These often cause excruciating pain and can be accompanied by a host of other unpleasant symptoms including: fever, swollen, red gums, sore, swollen glands in the neck, unusual tastes in the mouth, bad breath, a stiff and swollen jaw and open sores on the gums that may drain. Abscessed teeth can lead to lost teeth and destruction of the gum tissue and jaw bone. The germs and bacteria that is in the pus that is excreted from the open sores of the gum can get into the bloodstream causing life-threatening health conditions such as a blood infection.

One’s tooth sensitivity is often the result of an underlying oral health issue. It may stay at a temporary tooth sensitivity such as when a tooth is broken or chipped. In other instances, the pain can become worse, to the point where the pain is nearly unbearable. Regardless of how severe or not your tooth sensitivity is, it is worth it to have it looked at a dental professional. Your dentist will be able to diagnose the cause of your tooth sensitivity and apply the appropriate treatment.

Side Effects of LASIK

Side effects of Lasik eye surgery have prevented many a person from undergoing this sight improving procedure. Take for example a 37year old talent agent from Hollywood. He said he hated glasses and could not tolerate contact lenses. He even had the money to do the procedure. The only reason stopping him was his uncle had the procedure 20 years ago and had lot of side effects. This was food for thought. This was also a segway into how modern technology has decreased the incidence of side effects and how can a consumer prevent them.

I like to keep things simple and hence I have classified the side effects. The origin of side effects of Lasik eye surgery stem from causes before surgery, during the procedure and after the intervention. I explained to him once we understand the etiology; elimination becomes a matter of will and dedication.

Before Lasik Surgery is performed

Age of patient: The best age for Lasik eye surgery is from 21 years to 45 years. Younger patients can undergo laser vision correction but serial maps and number checks have to determine stability. Otherwise the effect of surgery will wear off.

Refractive Stability:It is very important that prescription of eyes have stabilized. It is very difficult to hit a moving target. That is the setting for poor outcomes. Minor variations are to be expected and is even allowed by FDA.

Ruling out Comorbidity: Diabetes, autoimmune diseases like thyroiditis may lead to increased side effects like delayed healing of surface layer.

The shape of Cornea: Shape, as studied with corneal topography, should be within normal ranges.

Thickness and Thinness map of Cornea: Thin and abnormal cornea can lead to bulging of the cornea if Lasik eye surgery is performed on them.

Dry Eye: This is present in a lot of individuals especially those living in warm dry climates like southern California. Older individuals, postmenopausal women and those on multiple medicines are also predisposed to lack or poor quality of tears. Dry eyes must be resolved before Lasik is done.

During the Lasik procedure

Automated vs. manual data entry: Incorrect manual data entry was found to be the commonest source of error in one study. This has been eliminated with the newer automated wavescan systems.

Calibration and accuracy of laser:Choosing a doctor one can trust is paramount for it is difficult to analyze behind the scene actions. The best centers keep the laser well calibrated and under maintenance contract with the manufacturing company.

Sterility of equipment: This is a no brainer but neglected at greedy centers.

After Lasik has been performed

Immediate assessment of flap: Within an hour the surgeon needs to check the flap placement. Adjustments should be done to prevent long-term sequelae.

Checkupwith in 24 to 48 hours for fall slip, inflammation, infection: This should not get neglected. It often gets omitted when the operating doctor is different from the one doing the postoperative check ups

Why Should We Avoid Glare?

Glare and fatigue are interrelated.Did you know that glare can be more tiring than actually running a 100 m dash? Yet doctors ignore this important symptom. The reason ophthalmologists don’t like talking about it is because it cannot be measured or quantified. Till now there was no treatment for glare.

What is glare?

Glare is a visual feeling brought on by extreme and also unrestrained illumination. It can be disabling or simply unpleasant. It is subjective, and also level of sensitivity to glare can differ commonly. Currently science has not been able to come up with an instrument to grade the glare.Older people are generally a lot more sensitive to glow due to the aging qualities of the eye. This may be in part due to the ageing lens and the drying up of cornea. We can classify glare into two types.Impairment glare is the reduction in exposure caused by extreme source of lights in the field of view, while discomfort glare is the experience of inconvenience or perhaps discomfort generated by excessively intense sources.

When there is an excessive contrast between the dark locations and also bright locations in the direction of watching, after that glare would certainly result. In other words, when there is way too much light, it will certainly create glare.

The reflected light from screens, shiny objects, LED lights in malls are most often noticed. Another constant complaint is while night driving glare from oncoming headlights of cars makes driving very difficult. Skiers know that ice and water may also induce glare.

Usually the amount of exposure is not much or constant.

COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME OR CVS

A new and common nuisance is the constant glare from the computer screens. It explains a bunch of eye and vision-related troubles that arise from prolonged computer, tablet computer, e-reader and also cellular phone usage. Numerous individuals experience eye pain as well as vision troubles when seeing digital screens for extensive durations. The degree of pain shows up to enhance with the quantity of digital display use.

Contributing factors

  1. Dry Eyes
  2. Astigmatism
  3. Scratched spectacles
  4. Dirty Contacts
  5. Bright LED lights
  6. Lights in front of face

Is your fatigue induced by glare?

A simple way would be to eliminate the glare for a day or two and see if you feel better.

Glare and fatigue can affect productivity

Many patients have had to abandon their jobs as the glare affected their mood and health. DO not take this lightly.

Preventing glare fatigue

  1. Follow 20/20/20 rule. Every 20 minutes take a break for 20 seconds and look 20 feet away
  2. Dark and polarized glasses cut off the glare and make vision better.
  3. Install antiglare screen or better still switch to LCD monitors. Unlike Cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors, the radiation and glare is less. Therefore they are easy on the eye.
  4. Wear sunglasses outside especially when skiing.

Is Your Eyesight Getting Worse With Your Glasses?

You may be a fan of wearing glasses due to the fact that you like the convenience associated with seeing clearly instantly as you put them on. Another convenience that you appreciate is associated with the fact that your glasses, unlike contact lenses, require minimal maintenance. However, you dislike the inconveniences associated with getting a stronger prescription as your eyes get weaker and weaker as you continue to rely on them heavily to see clearly. Have you ever wondered whether or not your eyesight with glasses is consistently clear? Therefore, if you are interested in this subject here is some interesting information that you are going to consider useful about this topic.

Your Glasses Don’t Improve Your Vision Naturally: Your glasses are a band-aid solution to your vision problems. From this point of view, they don’t address the main causes of your poor eyesight. When you wear your glasses your visual system is not functioning in an efficient manner. This is due to the fact that the glasses are a crutch that cause you to develop a relationship that relies on an artificial means by which you are improving your eyesight. This is due to the fact that eye strain is the main cause of poor eyesight and it is ironic that glasses help you to see clearly instantly however your glasses are making your eyesight clear by increasing the amount of stress on your visual system which is one of the main causes of bad eyesight.

Your Vision Is Not Consistently Clear With Glasses: Even though your glasses appear to provide clear instant vision natural vision improvement practitioners have made scientific findings that have determined that your vision even when you are wearing your glasses is not consistently clear throughout the course of the day. They have concluded in research studies that your vision fluctuates at different periods of time. This is due to the fact that your glasses are not improving your eyesight via the process of accommodation. Accommodation is defined as the ability of the eye muscles to create the ideal shape that is necessary for the eyes to see both near and distant objects clearly.

Your glasses are a convenient vision correction method that enables you to see clearly instantly. While this is a convenience that you appreciate it facilitates this function as a popular vision improvement method in an artificial way. This is due to the fact that your glasses are causing you to develop a relationship of dependence that leads to weaker eyes and stronger prescriptions. Ironically, even though they make you see clearly instantly they help you to accomplish this goal by being the source of the actual factor that is a main contributing cause of poor eyesight; stress and tension in the visual system.

Your glasses are a vision improvement method that you appreciate due to the fact that they enable you to see clearly when you wear them. However, even in spite of the fact that this is a convenience that you consider beneficial they facilitate this function in an artificial way. Therefore, your vision weakens as you require a stronger prescription. Therefore, due to the fact that this popular vision improvement method helps you to see clearly in an artificial way your vision is not consistently clear however it fluctuates. Your glasses are not the be all and end all of your vision problems however they are ultimately a band aid solution to your vision problems.
